To Green or Not to Green

Our Feelings on the Issues Regarding "Green" or Going Green"

Overall our group feels throughout history the planet has improved methods for using fuel. Issues regarding the environment have become more aware to the public. This later changed the way car dealerships produced their cars, making them more energy efficient and using less power and fossil fuels that harm our planet in the long run. Other things changed as well.  New forms of light bulbs were produced, to reduce the amount of energy used when producing light. Other methods such as the creation of wind turbines can dramatically our dependency on fossil fuels. By using wind as a source of energy, the use of oil and gas can eventually be minimized dramatically. This will eventually reduce the pollution in the planet, and prevent Ozone depletion. Compared to the amount of pollution in the years 1900 - 2000, pollution has

Our Views Towards Obama's and Romney' Plans for Environmental/ Energy improvements

Romney - Mitt Romney wants to cut spending to the EPA. He feels that the free market is more than capable of producing alternative energy on its own and in the meantime, we need to keep focusing on functioning as we are at our current rate of consumption. Use of oil, coal, and other fossil fuels cannot be sacrificed until alternative energy is actually available. President Obama promised to begin to "slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.” He is highly critical of the idea of funding the EPA (even though he supported it in 2007 when appealing to the liberals in Massachusetts, and believes Obama’s policies would accelerate the decline of the coal industry.

Obama - Obama plans to spend 150 billion in environmental research to create jobs that aid natural parks, wildlife reserves, beaches and nature centers. He said “We can't have an energy strategy that traps us in the past”. He wishes to develop an all of the above strategy to develop every sort of American made energy. After the Deep Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Obama administration has been aggressively looking after alternative sources of energy, the kind of energy that doesn't harm our natural environment. He wants to regulate the amount of foreign oil being imported and studies have shown that we depend so much less now on foreign oil. This is a good sign for our economy and oil independence.

Our group has yet to come up with an agreement. We feel both candidates have produced great plans for the environment and use of energy. Paul and Harry feel that Romney's idea of using fossil fuels until a reliable alternative energy source is found is the right way to go. Because they said Romney said that getting rid of our traditional use of natural resources will reduce the amount of energy this country has. We need to gradually limit our use instead of getting rid of it entirely. Me and Rasheeda, feel that Obama's policy towards finding a new energy source and limit our dependency on foreign oil imports is a far better solution towards protecting the natural environment and our economy. Because our environment is crucial and time is running out for the only planet that can sustain our species.
