Foreign Policy

Barack Obama's Foreign Policy Achievements

Throughout the presidency of Barack Obama, his administration completed several foreign policy achievements. The most recognized achievement of the President's administration is the assisination of Osama Bin Ladin, leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization. He ordered the withdrawal of troops in Iraq. He also intervened in Libya, in an international coalition to aid the rebellion against Mohammar Gadhafi. The US primarily provided logistical, artillery and air support however, avoiding ground combat. He also redirected focus and military assets to the south pacific and Asia, placing fighters and bombers in Darwin, Australia, and redirecting naval assets to Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines and other nations in the Pacific sea.

He wishes that the President would sell weapons to Syria and aid them with supplies. He also suggests that the United States Military needs more funds and spending. Without a well funded Military, the United States would not be able to support their traditional allies and protect the citizens living in the country. Romney wishes to increase military spending and improve the military, whereas the President wishes to maintain the current military status and improve domestic issues.

Our Group Decision

Our group did not come up with a decision. We felt, there were both positives and negatives with both candidates. Me and Rasheeda feel that Obama's plans on focusing on the domestic issues and unemployment rates are far more important than Romney's plans for the Military.  If the country fails to be domestically successful, then why should the Military be improved? The candidates should focus more on unemployment and little on the Military. That's exactly Obama's plan. He wishes to keep Military spending the same instead of increase it, and he also wishes to improve circumstances with our allies and cause less conflict with foreign nations. Harry and Paul feel that Romney's ideas for a stronger Military and increased Military spending will improve the conditions of the country. They agree with Romney's plans for limiting allies and maintaining good relations with our original allies. Romney feels that if the United States gets involved with more and more foreign countries, conflicts would arise and domestic issues would not be solved. Romney wishes to increase Military spending, to improve conditions for soldiers and to improve Military technologies. This will make relief efforts to allies easier and more beneficial. Both candidates want to limit foreign involvement, but their ideas towards the limitations are different; that is why our group was indecisive.
